We are a research group running experiments aimed at better understanding the brain mechanisms that are important in sensory perception, including the mechanisms that may lead to tinnitus. Our aim is to generate a better understanding of this common condition that will allow us to develop more effective treatments.
We are based at Newcastle University Medical School, where most of our research takes place. We also sometimes run collaborative projects with the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging in London, and the Human Brain Research Laboratory in Iowa, USA.
Our studies are conducted with the help of volunteers with and without tinnitus, and typically involve brain imaging with techniques such as electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
